Interior renovation of original 1930’s stone costal property.

The Brief

Maison Bretagne worked closely with a local architect on this project to achieve the high end interior renovation of this stone costal property situated in St Jacut sur Mer. The property had not been updated in the last 30 years and, not only was the internal decor looking tired, but all utilities required a complete update, including new electrics, a new heating installation and plumbing. The large basement area, previously used as a garage / workshop was converted into a self contained one bedroomed apartment with rear garden access.

Works Required

Our team began by stripping wall coverings, flooring as well as all existing kitchen and bedroom fixtures and fittings to create a blank canvas. The new room configurations were constructed and new insulation, to RT 2012 standards, electrics, plumbing and plaster boarding were installed. The roof was updated and all windows and doors replaced with high end, argon double glazed, graphite grey aluminium units. Ultimately the house was modernised in all aspects of energy efficiency standards set out by the RT2012 ‘reglementation thermique’ guidelines.

Creating a home

With a distinctive vision for the style of the interior, the clients requested that elements were sourced to fulfil the ‘esprit Anglais’ look they desired. We worked closely with suppliers to find, for example, a beautiful ‘point hongrie’ or herringbone oak parquet, covering the whole of the basement and ground floor levels of the property. Each individual piece was painstakingly fitted by our team, by hand over an area of 120m2 to create a seamless finish. When completed, it was satisfying to see that the parquet appeared as though it were the original flooring to the 1930’s seaside villa, creating a real wow factor in the property. Bespoke bathroom elements, cast iron radiators, four panel wooden internal doors and other joinery were specifically sourced to complete the look.
