Coastal 1960s Home Renovation & Two-Storey Extension in Crozon

House Extension, Interior Refurbishment, Garage Conversion & Landscaping Near Dinan Plage

This Maison Bretagne project involved the transformation of a 1960s coastal home in Crozon, close to Dinan Plage. The works included a new two-storey extension, a bright and practical porch, a boot room addition, garage conversion, bathroom refurbishments, full interior repainting, new lighting and external landscaping.

The objective was to modernise the existing property while creating additional living space, improving functionality and making the home better suited to coastal family life.

The Brief

The clients wanted to update and extend their 1960s property to create a brighter, more practical and comfortable home by the sea.

The project needed to provide flexible additional space, improve the connection between the house, garden and coastal views, and create practical areas for everyday living after time spent outdoors or at the beach.

The scope included:

  • two-storey house extension;
  • 40m² ground-floor office / lounge area;
  • 20m² first-floor master suite with en-suite shower room;
  • underfloor electric heating to the new ground-floor extension;
  • French doors opening towards Dinan Plage and the landscaped garden;
  • bright and airy porch;
  • 10m² boot room addition to the existing garage;
  • garage conversion into a utility area;
  • refurbishment of the two main bathrooms;
  • full interior repainting of the existing house;
  • new lighting throughout;
  • front garden landscaping;
  • roadside drainage improvements;
  • gravelled parking area;
  • new stone-clad boundary wall with timber fencing above.

The Extension

The new two-storey extension was designed to add generous, light-filled living space while making the most of the property’s coastal setting.

On the ground floor, the extension created a 40m² office and lounge area with electric underfloor heating. French doors were installed on both sides of the space, allowing views towards Dinan Plage in Crozon on one side and direct access to the landscaped garden on the other.

This created a calm, flexible room that could be used for working, relaxing or entertaining, with a strong connection to the outdoors.

On the first floor, the extension provided a 20m² master suite with an en-suite shower room, adding comfort, privacy and improved accommodation within the home.

Boot Room & Garage Conversion

A 10m² boot room was added to the existing garage, creating a practical entrance space for coastal living. With a large Velux window bringing in natural light, the boot room provides a useful place to remove boots, coats or sandy wetsuits after a day at the beach.

The existing garage was also renovated and converted into a utility area. Fitted kitchen furniture was installed to create a practical and organised space for the washing machine, dryer, storage and drying clothes.

Together, these areas significantly improved the day-to-day functionality of the property.

Interior Refurbishment

Inside the existing house, the two main bathrooms were updated to create fresher, more comfortable spaces. The whole property was repainted, and new lighting was installed throughout to improve the atmosphere, usability and overall finish of the home.

These internal works helped bring the original 1960s house in line with the new extension and gave the property a more cohesive, modern feel.

External Works & Landscaping

The front garden was landscaped to improve the arrival experience and practicality of the property.

The works included new drainage to the roadside, a gravelled parking area, and the removal of the large front hedge. A new breeze block boundary wall was built along the full frontage of the property, then clad in real stone with timber fencing above.

This gave the property a more defined, attractive and durable entrance while improving privacy and kerb appeal.

The Result

The completed project transformed the property into a brighter, more practical and spacious coastal home.

The two-storey extension added valuable living and bedroom space, while the boot room, utility area, bathroom refurbishments, lighting, repainting and landscaping improved the comfort and functionality of the existing house.

This project is a strong example of Maison Bretagne’s experience in coastal home renovation, house extensions, garage conversions, interior refurbishment and landscaping in Brittany.
