Five-Storey Townhouse Renovation & Interior Design in Central Dinan

Historic Townhouse Renovation With Elegant Period-Inspired Interiors

Maison Bretagne was appointed to renovate key areas of a five-storey townhouse in the centre of Dinan, Brittany. With its grand proportions, historic setting and elegant atmosphere, the property had a distinctly classic feel — full of character, charm and what the clients described as “Downton Abbey” inspiration.

The project focused on the renovation and interior refurbishment of the kitchen, lounge, main staircase and bedrooms, with each space carefully updated to suit modern living while remaining faithful to the period character of the property.

The Brief

The clients wanted Maison Bretagne to help refresh and renovate the interior of the townhouse while preserving its traditional elegance. The aim was not to over-modernise the property, but to work with its existing character and enhance the atmosphere of a historic Dinan home.

The design direction was classic, layered and heritage-inspired, with paint colours, finishes and decorative choices selected to reflect the style and period of the building.

The scope included:

  • renovation of a five-storey townhouse in central Dinan;
  • kitchen refurbishment;
  • lounge renovation and decoration;
  • renovation of the main staircase;
  • bedroom refurbishment and decoration;
  • interior design support;
  • careful selection of period-appropriate paint colours;
  • finishes chosen to suit the clients’ traditional design aesthetic;
  • preservation of the property’s existing character and atmosphere.

The Renovation

Maison Bretagne renovated the principal living spaces of the property, focusing on the areas that would have the greatest impact on the day-to-day experience of the home.

The kitchen was updated to create a more practical and elegant space, while the lounge was refurbished to enhance the property’s classic townhouse feel. The main staircase, a central feature of the five-storey home, was treated as an important architectural element and renovated in a way that respected its role within the property.

The bedrooms were also refurbished, with careful attention given to colour, finish and atmosphere so that each room felt connected to the overall style of the house.

Interior Design Approach

The interior design approach was guided by the clients’ love of traditional, period-inspired interiors.

Paint colours were carefully selected to echo the tones and atmosphere of the building’s era, helping to create a sense of continuity between the architecture and the decoration. Rather than imposing a modern style onto an older property, the design choices were made to feel natural, elegant and sympathetic to the townhouse’s historic character.

The result was a refined interior scheme with a timeless feel, combining comfort, heritage and personality.

The Result

The completed project brought renewed life and elegance to this substantial central Dinan townhouse.

By renovating the kitchen, lounge, staircase and bedrooms with sensitivity to the property’s period character, Maison Bretagne helped create a home that feels both practical and atmospheric. The finished interiors reflect the clients’ personal taste while remaining in keeping with the architecture and historic setting of the building.

This project is a strong example of Maison Bretagne’s experience in townhouse renovation, interior design, period property refurbishment and character home renovation in Brittany.
