Groundworks and Landscaping
This was a project which entailed the completed groundworks and landscaping of the front driveway and patio area of a French manoir in the Burgundian region of France. The work was undertaken following a septic tank installation which had required the digging up of existing driveway and patio area to the front of the property.
The property was constructed in the early 1900 and had a mature garden with some impressive and mature trees and shrubbery. The property was also south facing and therefore the drive and patio were a very important exterior space concerning the functionality of the property and had to be kept practical whilst taking advantage of the splendid plant life to create a pleasant area to sit out and enjoy the sunshine in the summer months.
We divided the space into sections and made the levels higher the closer to the garden area they were in order to create a subtle distinction between where vehicles could be parked and where the patio area could be enjoyed uninterrupted. Following the brief of the client to make it as practical as possible whilst prohibiting the obstruction of the wonderful view of the Morvan to the front of the property, we concluded to cover the graduated sections of earth with red gravel from a local quarry. This serve to match the authenticity of the style the client had created for the interiors of the manor to the outside.
