Maison de Maître Renovation & Interior Design in Saint-Jacut, Brittany

Chic living room interior renovation of 1930s stone coastal property on the French cote d'armor

Maison de Maître Renovation & Interior Design in Saint-Jacut

Three-Floor Coastal Property Renovation With Basement Studio Conversion

Completed in 2018, this Maison Bretagne project involved the full renovation and interior design of a maison de maître in the coastal town of Saint-Jacut, Brittany.

The property was renovated across three floors, with the objective of creating a comfortable, elegant and practical home while respecting the character and proportions of the original building. The project included extensive refurbishment works, complete kitchen and bathroom renovations, and the transformation of the basement into a separate studio apartment.

The Brief

The clients wanted to modernise the property while preserving the charm and atmosphere of a traditional French maison de maître. The renovation needed to improve the flow, functionality and comfort of the house, while also creating independent accommodation within the basement level.

The scope included:

  • full three-floor renovation;

  • interior design and finish specification;

  • complete kitchen refurbishment;

  • bathroom refurbishments throughout;

  • basement conversion into a separate studio apartment;

  • improved layout and use of space;

  • updated finishes suitable for coastal living;

  • careful modernisation of a character property.

The Renovation

This was a substantial renovation project requiring careful planning and coordination across multiple levels of the property.

The main house was refurbished to create lighter, more functional living spaces, with updated kitchen and bathroom areas designed to suit modern use while remaining sympathetic to the style of the property.

The basement was converted into an independent studio apartment, providing flexible additional accommodation. This part of the project required particular attention to layout, services, practicality and comfort, ensuring the lower level could function as a separate living space while still feeling connected to the overall quality of the main home

Interior Design Approach

The interior design focused on creating a calm, refined coastal home that balanced a touch of British style and French charm with comfortable modern living.

Materials, colours and finishes were selected to enhance the natural light, architectural proportions and coastal setting of the property. The aim was not to over-modernise the maison de maître, but to give it a renewed sense of elegance, practicality and ease.

The Result

The finished project delivered a complete transformation of the property across all three floors, together with a fully converted basement studio apartment.

The renovation created a versatile coastal home with improved comfort, updated kitchens and bathrooms, carefully considered interiors and additional independent accommodation.

This project is a strong example of Maison Bretagne’s experience in character property renovation, interior design and full house refurbishment in Brittany.
